Here are five questions every buyer should ask themselves before diving in:

I’m not just talking about your pre-approval amount. I mean what you can comfortably afford each month without sacrificing your lifestyle. Have you talked with a lender yet? Getting pre-approved early helps you understand your price range and puts you in a stronger position when you’re ready to make an offer.

2️⃣ Have you planned for the “extras”?

There’s more to homeownership than the down payment. You’ll want to factor in closing costs, movers, and a small cushion for those “new homeowner surprises” because the water heater never breaks at a convenient time.

3️⃣ Are you planning to stick around?

Buying usually makes the most sense if you plan to stay put for at least a few years. If you think there’s a move on the horizon — new job, new city, new life chapter — it might be better to wait until things feel a little more settled.

4️⃣ Is your income steady and reliable?

A consistent paycheck (and ideally, a little emergency savings) helps keep homeownership comfortable, not stressful. Lenders love stability, and so will you when unexpected repairs pop up.

5️⃣ Do you have the right people in your corner?

A strong support team makes all the difference. That means a trusted lender, an agent who listens and communicates (hi 👋), and possibly a home inspector or financial advisor if you’re new to the process. Having the right people behind you can turn an overwhelming process into a smooth one.
